Greetings! The Memphis Paralegal Association (“MPA”) is an organization of paralegals that work with attorneys who assume the professional responsibility for the final work product in legal matters. Paralegals are employed by various organizations which include private law firms, banks, corporations, insurance agencies, legal clinics, courts, government agencies, accounting and engineering firms, title companies, real estate firms, construction companies and other entities where law-related work is performed. MPA is one of many paralegal organizations throughout the country that is affiliated with the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (“NFPA”), hence members of MPA are official members of NFPA. MPA serves as a non-profit organization in the legal community, promoting the paralegal profession in Memphis and the surrounding areas. Our goal is to advance the educational standards of the profession, to educate employers regarding the role of a paralegal, and to continue the education of paralegals through weekly informational bulletins, monthly CLE Lunch & Learn Series, Yahoo!Group on position & issues, quarterly newsletters, seminars and research. MPA is very excited about advancing paralegal educational standards through accredited Continuing Legal Education (“CLE”), in which our paralegals meet every 3rd Thursday of the month for CLE, which is accredited through the National Federation of Paralegal Associations. As well, MPA promotes continuing legal education through specialized training opportunities, study groups for accredidation through PACE and entry-level exams, and through international webinars for continuing legal education via the internet. Thus, in order for our paralegals today to be more efficient, effective and overall beneficial to the attorneys that they support, as well as to the legal community, it is necessary to continually enhance our educational standards. MPA has opened the door to even greater opportunities by providing our paralegal members with employment resource tools, The Paralegal Profiler and a weekly bulletin, the MPA Profiler in providing blind ads to MPA members from the Profiler on our website. The Paralegal Profiler, a benefit for MPA members found in the Member Club of our website, was developed to provide a profile of the paralegal members seeking employment, and for the employer that is seeking to hire the right paralegal. MPA finds that paralegals affiliated with a paralegal association are the better choice by employers, due to the organization’s mission of advancing educational standards. As well, while seeking employment, paralegals are our biggest connections! Pro Bono support of the Memphis Bar Association’s Equal Access to Justice Committee and the Memphis Area Legal Services (‘MALS”) is the center of MPA’s heart, which we have mandated a quest to become more active in the legal community. One way, in particular, is by volunteering our assistance to provide more pro bono1 services through paralegal volunteers at various scheduled Saturday legal clinics and other local legal aide clinics in Memphis and the surrounding areas. Such unselfish service from our paralegals provide for even more advance education and networking opportunities that is founded on the principle that paralegals would not be in existence today, had it not been for attorneys. MPA is an organization solely committed to enhancing the paralegal profession and watching out for your paralegal career. While delivering weekly news updates and lots and lots of information, all phases of paralegals reap extraordinary opportunities for paralegal success. Hence, it does not matter if you received your designation from another national association, or whether you hold the CLA, CP, RP or any other type of designation, MPA is here to serve you, the Indispensable Paralegal. As MPA continues to keep their paralegals informed, we invite you to affiliate yourself with our organization. There are many exceptional ways that you could be involved with MPA and our mission of promoting the paralegal profession. Whether you are an individual desiring to become a paralegal, a student of paralegal studies, an unemployed paralegal seeking employment, a recruiter or vendor, your involvement with MPA could be a very rewarding experience. If you are interested in becoming a member of MPA or would like to become a Title Sponsor2, please feel free to email us at membership@memphisparalegalassociation.org for more information. MPA looks forward to serving you during this 2008-2009 term. Sincerely, Jacqueline R. Waller
